Youth Sailing lessons

The Marquette Junior Yacht Club will be running the sailing school for four weeks this summer, with both morning and afternoon sessions. Skills taught include tying knots, understanding the points of sail, proper sail trim, boat and water safety, capsize and recovery drills, working on a crew, being the "skipper" and steering a sailboat, how to rig and derig boats, and sailing on a set course. Most importantly, we want all students to enjoy the classes and learn to have fun sailing and being on the water!

Youth are encouraged to learn at their own pace, so they can sign up for both sessions (morning and afternoon) during a week or multiple sessions over several weeks. Morning classes are 10 a.m.-12:45 p.m., and afternoon classes run 2-4:45 p.m. All sessions will be capped at 8 students to allow our instructors to devote more personal attention to each student.  The classes will run Monday-Friday when possible, but due to unpredictable weather conditions in the U.P., we can only guarantee four days of class per week. Parents or guardians will be notified ahead of time when classes are canceled. The program cost is $200 per session.
